Often in a few minutes, a tornadoes takes lives, destroys properties, interrupts businesses, and leaves with a long-lasting impact and recovery period. With the rapid growth of emerging technology on one side and the need in the battle against tornadoes on the other side, we have envisioned the Technology against Tornado (TaT) Student Competition and Expo to inspire and engage students by transforming their innovative ideas into real-world functional products to empower communities against tornadoes.
Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and hosted by the University of Tennessee at Martin, TaT 2023 is a one-day summit of competition, expo, and activities full of creativity and innovation to use technology against tornadoes.
Call for Student Teams
TaT 2023 invites prospective student teams to submit and participate in the competition and win prizes!
Student teams must include two or more high school, college, or university students, including all majors. Students can be at any level of their academic studies. Read more about the eligibility and competition rules here.
Submissions must be based on the following categories,
Category 1: Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Machine Learning Technology
Category 2: Games, Augmented and Virtual Reality Technology
Category 3: Drones, Robots, Embedded and Autonomous Systems
Team Awards (including certificate of achievement)
*Categories are final; Submissions will be evaluated based on the students class: 1) High-school teams, 2) College/University teams

There is No Fee to register student teams and compete; however, finalists must attend the in-person competition to become eligible as award winners.

TaT 2023 invites prospective technology leaders, organizations and industries to join our exhibition with the focus on Technology against Tornado!
We cordially invite technology leaders, industries, and organizations active in tornado preparedness, awareness, and recovery to join us and exhibit their work to students and the community during our TaT 2023 Student competition and expo.
There is No Fee to attend the TaT 2023 Student Competition and Expo.
